Free turkey dinner serving hope to Flint families

FLINT, Michigan—Blessed to be a Blessing is back for its eleventh year. Year after year, it’s an event that guarantees that everyone who wants a seat at the Thanksgiving table, has one and leaves a bit warmer than when they arrived.

Well of Hope will host more than 50 volunteers from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, to serve families a free and complete turkey dinner with dressing, macaroni and cheese, yams and all the fixings.

There will be raffles,  giveaways, as well as live music from DJ C-Nice. Oh, and there will also be socks. Lots and lots of socks.

Guests will leave with six to eight free pairs of socks which have been collected through a city-wide sock collection drive sponsored by Elga Credit Union.

Chia Morgan, the founder and coordinator of the dinner, made the sock drive a staple to the dinner five years ago.  She couldn’t help but notice that there were too many feet unprepared to face winter’s blistering winds, snow, and below- zero temperatures.

The event is made possible through local sponsorships with the  Community Foundation of Greater Flint, Mott Community College, Elga Credit Union, Robert & Sharonna Owens, HAP, United Way of Genesee County, MTA, Pentecostal Temple Apostolic Church, and UAW Local 598.

Blessed to be a Blessing will take place at  Center for Hope on 812 Root Street and is open to all who wish to attend. For more information or to secure transportation contact Well of Hope at 810-789-3407.
