FLINT, Michigan — As Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) prepares for the upcoming school year, the district is launching a major recruitment effort through its Spring Career Fair, scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, 2025. The event will be held at the Erwin Davis Education Center’s Legacy Auditorium in Flint and is open to job seekers interested in serving students and families across Genesee County.
Amy Gawthrop, Human Resources Supervisor at GISD, said the timing of the fair is intentional as the district gears up for staffing needs in the fall. “As we look ahead and prepare for a new school year, spring is a great time to reach out to the community to find individuals who would like to join the GISD team and help serve right here in their hometowns,” she said.
The district is hiring for a wide range of roles, including Special Education Teachers, Para-Educators, Head Start Teachers and Classroom Support, Bus Drivers, and Transportation Aides. Several administrative and support service roles are also available, such as Finance Director, Payroll and Accounting positions, Human Resources Leave and Support Specialist, Technology staff, Head Cook, and Custodial positions.
“Positions that directly support students and families are our highest priority,” Gawthrop explained. “But it’s important to note that every role — from finance to transportation to custodial — plays a part in creating an environment where students can thrive.”
Creating a welcoming environment for new employees is central to GISD’s approach to hiring and retention. Gawthrop said the district places a strong emphasis on orientation, training, and mentorship, ensuring that new hires feel supported from their first day.
“GISD believes people are our greatest asset and creates a welcoming and growth-oriented environment by offering a strong onboarding experience,” she said. “We also provide a comprehensive benefits package that promotes well-being and stability, allowing staff to focus on growing professionally while feeling valued and supported.”
For those who may not have considered a career in education before, Gawthrop encourages them to think broadly about how their skills can make a difference.
“Whether you work in the classroom or not, you can impact and change lives—schools need all kinds of talents, from classroom to HR and IT to counseling, finance, and other support roles,” she said. “The impact is real, lasting, and often more meaningful than you’d ever expect.”
Job seekers are encouraged to bring a resume and be prepared for possible on-site interviews at the event.
“Please come and share with us your skills and experience so we can get to know you and see where you might fit in our organization,” Gawthrop added. “We are looking forward to meeting future employees who have a desire to serve and want to be supported while doing it.”
The Spring Career Fair will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and again from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Erwin Davis Education Center, located at 2413 West Maple Avenue in Flint, Entrance #3.
