'Empower Night' gives Flint youth a chance to enjoy a free Detroit Pistons game

FLINT, Michigan — Flint native Danielle Green is gearing up for 'Empower Night' that will give Flint youth the opportunity to attend a Detroit Pistons game for free on March 23, 2022. The Pistons will be playing against the Atlanta Hawks at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, and Green is asking for early ticket purchases and donations to help meet her goal of sponsoring 100 kids.

'Empower Night' is presented by Empower, Green's Flint-based non-profit organization that focuses on empowering and uplifting the youth of Flint.

In 2019, Green took 60 kids on an outing but was unable to do so in the years 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. With more safety protocols in place, she plans on taking 100 kids to the Pistons game for a night of basketball and fun.

"The children of Flint have been through negative experience after negative experience," said Green. "  Whenever we can provide a positive experience that takes them out of their everyday environment, we need to do just that. We must introduce our kids to new things through education, experience, and exposure. These are the things dreams are made of."

From each ticket sold, $5 will also go toward Empower's literacy program. The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, February 4, 2022.
