'Brunch & Learn' series launches across Michigan to raise awareness about Myasthenia Gravis

FLINT, Michigan — A new statewide event series is bringing brunch, bold conversations, and better health to communities of color across Michigan, starting this week in Flint. Organized by Acclinate’s health equity platform NOWINCLUDED, the 'Brunch & Learn: Myasthenia Gravis Edition' kicks off Saturday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the YWCA (801 Saginaw St) in downtown Flint.

The free, four-city series aims to raise awareness about Myasthenia Gravis (MG), which is a rare neuromuscular disease that disproportionately affects women and is frequently misdiagnosed in Black and Brown communities.

Following the Flint stop, events will take place in Saginaw on May 18, Grand Rapids on June 7, and Detroit on June 14. Each brunch will feature interactive wellness activities, giveaways, educational materials, and an immersive VR experience that simulates life with MG.

Attendees will also hear firsthand from medical professionals, MG patients (called 'MG warriors'), and local advocates who are working to reshape health narratives.

“This is not your average brunch,” said Shayla Wilson, Head of Community at Acclinate. “We believe health conversations should feel personal, powerful, and rooted in community, not clinical or cold. That’s why we’re bringing these conversations directly to the people, in spaces that feel authentic and accessible.”

The series is part of a broader initiative to increase understanding of MG and encourage participation in clinical research that could improve health outcomes for underrepresented communities.

To attend, guests are encouraged to RSVP online at NOWINCLUDED’s website
