Mara Technologies chooses Grand Blanc Township as home for new headquarters

FLINT, Michigan — Electronics manufacturer Mara Technologies USA is expanding and has chosen Grand Blanc Township as the location for its new headquarters. A subsidiary of Markham, Ontario-based Invotek Group Inc., Mara Technologies creates global broadband telecommunication, IOT devices and infrastructure, EV, and other power-management systems.

The company has over 2,000 employees across the globe, in Asia, Europe, and North America. Invotek Group USA Vice President of Operations, Jeff Gary, says the company’s coming to Michigan is an especially proud moment. “I’ve been working on trying to get this done for about a year,” Gary says. “We’ll be the first plant of the USA group.”

Gary says the location at 10456 N. Holly Road in Grand Blanc Township proved to be a good one because of the region’s talented workforce, supply chain infrastructure, and customer objectives.

As the former General Manager of Magna Electronics from 2008 to 2021, Gary spent time in this exact plant. “I’ve got a lot of connections to the area,” he says. “I’m on the Downtown Development Authority for Grand Blanc Township as well. I’ve been in this area for 15 years.”

The company is slated to begin hiring immediately, with operations starting in March, filling nearly 300 jobs.

Gary says the newly available positions will include purchasing, financing, human resources, and production roles making circuit boards, running test equipment, and assembling system apps at the high-volume production plant.

The company has already received applications for the new positions, and Gary says the intention is to hire employees starting next month.

“The jobs are good jobs,” he says. “They are in temperature and humidity-controlled settings, there’s no heavy lifting. We train people, so people don’t need to be afraid of not knowing how to do the job – we’ll teach them.” The Michigan Strategic Fund approved a $1 million performance-based grant for the company, which will generate a private investment of $28 million.

The Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance has also expressed support for Mara Technologies’ expansion and will provide support in finding talent to fill available positions. In a press release, the Executive Director of the Economic Alliance, a division of Flint & Genesee Group, Tyler Rossmaessler, says the location provides great access to much of the state’s population.

A look inside Mara Technologies' manufacturing space.“Not only do we have a civilian labor force of more than 170,000, we’re within an hour’s drive of 4 million people,” he says. “That’s 40 percent of the state’s population and a huge advantage for our employers.”
