Genesee County Habitat for Humanity to host 'Show Me the Money Day'

FLINT, Michigan — On Saturday, Feb. 26, the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity will host "Show Me The Money Day" which is a financial literacy event for adults. Running from 10 a.m to 2 p.m, the event will take place at the historic Berston Field House located at 3300 Saginaw St. in Flint.

Sponsored statewide by the Consumers Energy Foundation and hosted by members of the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan, 'Show Me The Money Days' are held annually across Michigan from January to June to kick off tax season and promote opportunities to increase income, save and build assets.

“This year, because of the generous, local support of The State Bank, the Consumers Energy Foundation, and other sponsors, we are able to provide even more resources to attendees at the event,” said Thomas Hutchison, executive director of Genesee County Habitat for Humanity. “Additionally, we are delighted to be able to hold this popular event at Berston Field House for the first time. With such a central location, even more people from across Genesee County will be able to attend and learn how to take control of their personal finances and build financial stability.”

Positioned as a fun, free event, 'Show Me The Money Day' allows community members to learn about financial resources in Genesee County. Those in attendance will attend workshops on various topics like understanding and managing credit and debt, insurance, and budgeting. In addition, local professionals will be onsite to give tips through workshops like exploring loans for cars and information for first-time homebuyers. Attendees will win prizes throughout the event and the first 200 registrants will receive a boxed lunch.

“Consumers Energy is committed to the communities we serve and to providing economic and other opportunities for our state’s residents. We’re pleased to support 'Show Me the Money Day' in helping Michigan residents save money and access financial resources,” said Carolyn Bloodworth, secretary/treasurer of the Consumers Energy Foundation.
