FLINT, Michigan — On Thursday, May 22, the Flint Institute of Arts will come alive with music, color, and community as The Modern Queer LLC hosts it’s inaugural 'Queer Brunch at Night,' a celebratory evening dedicated to Flint’s LGBTQ+ individuals, allies, entrepreneurs and creatives.
From 6:00 to 9:00 PM, attendees will enjoy a curated night of food, drinks, and music aimed at uplifting and honoring the richness of queer identity and resilience in Flint.
Organized by Flint-based writer and creative Xzavier V. Simon, 'Queer Brunch at Night' is more than just a social gathering — it’s a statement of presence and pride during a time when queer and trans visibility is being challenged nationwide.
“With so many challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community today, this event is about reclaiming space, celebrating who we are, and honoring the people who make our city vibrant,” says Simon.
Flint’s DJ Smuvi will spin throughout the evening, setting the vibe with a musical mix to bring the house down.
The evening starts with an open bar for the first hour, giving guests a warm welcome and a chance to mingle. It is followed by a keynote speech by Simon that will touch on themes of identity, resistance, and community healing.
Guests will also enjoy catering by The Local Grocer, a favorite downtown Flint spot known for fresh, local, and inclusive food options. Vegan dishes will be available to accommodate various dietary needs, ensuring everyone feels welcome at the table.
What makes 'Queer Brunch at Night' especially unique is the full after-hours access to the Flint Institute of Arts. Guests can wander through galleries, take in the museum’s exhibits, and experience art from start to finish.
“The museum is one of Flint’s most beautiful spaces, and it’s powerful to fill it with LGBTQ+ people, laughter, and love,” Simon noted. “I’m grateful to the FIA for believing in this vision and for holding space for Flint’s queer community and its allies.”
In addition to food and entertainment, the evening will recognize local changemakers and organizations impacting Flint’s LGBTQ+ community.
Guests will have opportunities to connect with other queer and allied professionals, creatives, and advocates, making it a meaningful moment for networking and celebration.
Tickets are available now for $50, and sponsorship opportunities are open. Sponsorship packages range from $100 to $750 and include perks like complimentary tickets, promotional visibility, and VIP seating.
