Two players from Bucks national championship team and a Grand Blanc native heading to Flint

FLINT, Michigan -- Three players from Butler University -- two of whom played on the Flint City Bucks’ 2019 national championship team and one who is from Grand Blanc -- have signed on with the team for the upcoming USL League Two season at Atwood Stadium.

Rhys Myers and Hemi Nasser were key players in the championship run in their inaugural season in Flint. Caleb Morris, a Grand Blanc native, will join the team for the first time.

Myers, from England, played 105 minutes in the championship game against Reading United AC. He started 18 matches in his first season at Butler, missing just two due to injury. The Bulldogs finished ranked 28th in the country. Last year, Butler made its third NCAA Tournament appearance in four years. In the final match, Myers headed in his first goal as a member of the Bulldogs.

“Flint is a great place; it's a great community that has come together to make Flint a fantastic place to be,” Myers said in a news release. “I enjoyed my time in Flint in 2019, and I can’t wait to get started again and hopefully win another national championship.”

Nasser joined the Bucks midway through the 2019 season, when he was 17-years-old. In his first two appearances, he scored three goals — including consecutive game-winners. That knack for clutch play came in handy in the championship game when, in the 106th minute of the scoreless championship game, he intercepted a pass from a Reading player at midfield and hit Ayuk Tambe in stride for the decisive goal in the game. He made seven starts as a freshman at Butler.

Norris was set to join Flint City last season before the COVID-19 pandemic changed those plans. The 6-foot-5 goalkeeper redshirted last season with Butler.
