Beats x Beers 4th annual ‘Block Party’ happens on Labor Day weekend

FLINT, Michigan — The fourth annual Beats x Beers Block Party returns to downtown Flint on Labor Day weekend, and this year, the spotlight is on local talent. The party takes place in Carriage Town on the corner of W First Ave & Mason St. from 6 PM to 10 PM.

“This year you can expect another classic Block Party,” said Brandon Corder, Flint native and founder of Beats x Beers. “Every year we're always looking to enhance the experience. This year we moved it to Labor Day weekend for the first time ever.

The annual Block Party has always been held on Memorial Day weekend, but Corder decided to change things up this year. “I saw it as an opportunity to create something for Labor Day weekend as a grand closing to summer,” he said. “We kicked the summer off during Memorial Day weekend and now we'll close the summer Labor Day weekend.”

Another change Corder made was putting local talent at the center of the event. Last year's Block Party featured a live DJ set from platinum-selling producer Jazze Pha. This year, the spotlight is on two local music legends, DJ Handelz and DJ Hype, as they battle it out with live music sets.

“This year, we wanted to keep it about Flint. I feel like Flint has a lot of talent and we have the spotlight right now so we wanted to contribute to that,” said Corder. “We'll be doing DJ Handelz vs. DJ Hype as the main event, taking two of our legendary DJs and putting the spotlight on them. Also, we're adding a host this year which has never been done before, so the event will be hosted by Cheesestixxx.”

The event will also have local vendors onsite, including The Grill God, Garden of Youth, Suggs Sweets, Sophisticated Budz, Prepped By Dot, God 1st, Family 2nd, Life in 3D, SMH Treats, Litt Kitchen, TJ's Concessions, and more. Drinks will be served by In The Mix. Beats x Beers recently formed a partnership with the champagne brand BelAire which the event is sponsored by.

When asked what he’s looking forward to most at The Block Party, Corder explained that he’s excited to simply bring some excitement to his hometown. “I feel like it has become one of the most sought-after events of the year that happens in the city. I can't wait to see everybody as we close out the summer with a bang.”
